MCI Official News : NEET Score Valid For 3 Years To Study MBBS Abroad

MCI Official Update of NEET

As per the latest notification by MCI, National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) score is now valid for three years for all Indian students who wish to pursue MBBS course in abroad countries.

Medical Council of India's latest notification in NEET eligibility has cleared the confusion among many students and parents. 

"Result of NEET shall be valid for a period of three years from the date of declaration of result, entitling a candidate to pursue MBBS or equivalent medical course including pre-medical/language course, if any, followed by MBBS or equivalent medical course.” - Said MCI Board of Governors.

More than 7,000 students from India apply for MBBS course in foreign universities annually. The number of applications has been increased since the last 3-4 years due to high competition for MBBS in India.

As per the reports by The Hindu, the notification further said that 
“these regulations may be called the “Eligibility Requirement for Taking Admission in an Undergraduate Medical Course in a Foreign Medical Institution (Amendment) Regulation, 2019.”

The above stated latest amendments have come into force from March 14, the date of publication in the Official Gazette.

As per the MCI notification of March, MCI stated that: 
“Indian Citizens/Overseas Citizen of India intending to obtain primary medical qualification from any medical institution outside India, on or after May 2018, shall have to mandatorily qualify the NEET for admission to MBBS course besides fulfilling the eligibility criteria for admission to the MBBS course prescribed in the Regulations on Graduate Medical Education, 1997.”

MCI have reported a significant increase in the number of applicants to study MBBS in abroad countries. MCI received 18,383 applications in 2017-18. The number of applications was increased to  10,555 in 2018-19.  MCI has issued 14,118 eligibility certificates in 2017-18, compared to 8,737 in 2016- 2017.
